Applications Now Available for Fishing Events in the Oil Region

Applications are now available for the Mr. Whiskers Catfish & Carp Fishing Derby which will be held June 27-29, and also the Allegheny River Bass Tournament which will be held on Sunday, September 14.  Anglers may fish along the Allegheny River or its tributaries, from the bridge in Tionesta to the bridge in Emlenton, in both of these events.

The Mr. Whiskers Catfish & Carp Fishing Derby is the family-friendly fishing derby for flathead or Channel catfish and carp.  Anglers of all ages fish continuously from 7p.m. on Friday, June 27 through 7a.m. Sunday, June 29.  The entry fee for youths under age 17 is $5 and for adults 17 or over it is $15.  Anglers may fish by boat or from shore.  Once caught, fish must be kept alive so that they may be taken to a designated weighing station and then returned to the water.  Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three winners, adult and youth, in each species at 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 29 at Oil City Marina.

For the past eight years, the Alliance has held a bass tournament in the fall.  This year's Allegheny River Bass Tournament will be held on September 14 and will once again launch in Franklin.  In this tournament, teams of one or two persons fish for smallmouth and largemouth bass.  Fish are kept alive and brought to the wigh-in at the close of the tournament, where cash prizes are awarded to the top three teams as well as the lunker.  A cash prize of $1,000 is guaranteed for the first place team.  Cash prizes will be awarded to teams placing second through fifth, and the lunker will receive $100 cash.

Applications for these competitive angling events are now available at local bait and tackle shops or by calling the Oil Region Alliance and asking for Toni Kresinski, Events Manager, at (814) 677-3152 ext. 110 or toll free (800) 483-6264 ext. 110
